Who You Are: The Director of Finance is a strategic and detail-oriented leader who oversees all Finance Office operations, ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting, cost controls, revenue management, and compliance with policies and procedures. You collaborate closely with the Chief Financial Officer on financial planning, investments, grants, and reimbursements, while serving as the primary finance lead during Program Plan of Excellence meetings. As a collaborative leader, you develop and coach finance staff, communicate financial insights with the leadership team, and drive continuous process improvement to achieve departmental goals. You also ensure operational continuity by supporting key treasury functions and contributing wherever needed to advance District priorities.
What You'll Possess
Qualified Candidates Will:
- Possess a Master's Degree or be willing to obtain.
- Have five years of recent related experience.
- Have a background in bookkeeping and/or school finance. Project management experience preferred.
- Have familiarity with operational budgeting, accounts receivable/payable, billing, cash management, and other financial affairs.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and organization while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Provide excellent customer service, striving to exceed expectations while communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Take the initiative, seek out projects, and openly accept other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement, professional development, and openness to feedback.
What You'll Do
Directors provide overall direction and supervision of a single department with ultimate accountability and oversight. They provide leadership by motivating others to implement change initiatives efficiently and effectively. Directors are highly engaged in all aspects of the organization with complete autonomy and cross-functional responsibilities. They manage multiple projects with self-directed, deadline-driven accountability, combining a present and future focus. With a moderate mix of transactional and transformational work, Directors are high-functioning professionals who consistently apply discretion and independent judgment. Exempt
Essential Functions:
- Oversee all Finance Office functions, including budgeting, forecasting, cost controls, monthly close, revenue cycles, and compliance with policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
- Partner with the CFO on budget development, financial planning, investments, grants, and reimbursements.
- Lead finance representation during Program Plan of Excellence meetings and serve as backup to the assistant treasurer and encumbrance clerk to ensure continuity.
- Supervise and develop finance staff by aligning responsibilities with strengths, coaching for performance and growth, and promoting a positive, accountable team culture.
- Communicate financial information and initiatives to the leadership team while driving continuous process improvement and achieving workgroup financial goals.
- Other Job-Related Duties as Assigned by the Supervisor: The omission of duties does not exclude them from the position if similar, related, or a logical assignment to the job. In other words, you'll be helping out on spontaneous projects and opportunities not listed above.
