Tri-County Electric Cooperative is looking for a Full-Time Lineman Trainee to join our team in the Perry District. Job Summary
The Lineman Trainee is an entry level Lineman position. No prior Lineman experience is required. The Lineman Trainee performs various labor functions at the work site to assist the crew members. The Lineman Trainee is expected to learn the Lineman job through on-the-job training as well as through classroom-type training provided by the Cooperative.
Duties
(a) Carry out in a safe, economical, and efficient manner oral and written instructions as a helper to Linemen on construction and maintenance work, and, drive trucks, dig holes, trim trees, and perform other jobs as assigned.
(b) Gain knowledge of the service territory in order to perform job more efficiently and to qualify for advancement: become familiar with Cooperative distribution and transmission system and learn how to read a system map.
(c) Assist in the proper use and care of all tools and equipment, and report in writing to the Crew Leader any equipment working improperly or in need of repair.
(d) Must be able to drive equipment and maintain a current driver's license applicable to class of vehicle to be driven and must have a thorough knowledge of applicable traffic laws and rules governing safe driving practices. Must operate and maintain vehicle(s) in a safe and efficient manner, practicing good housekeeping with said vehicle(s) and associated equipment as assigned.
(e) Understand and personally perform all duties in accordance with applicable safety and policy manuals, as well as report to Supervisor(s) hazardous conditions and needed maintenance in field or office, such as checking for trees in line, rotten poles, etc.
(f) Maintain, in an accurate and prompt manner, required oral and/or written reports.
(g) Conduct oneself in such a manner as to contribute a better understanding of the Cooperative when in contact with members, or the public, as well as maintain a harmonious relationship with all Cooperative personnel. Promote good will and good public relations through any contact with member/consumers and the public in general.
(h) Responsible for tools and material assigned to the vehicle on which he is working as well as the general good housekeeping of vehicles.
(i) Loads and unloads line construction material on trucks, trailers and in warehouse.
(j) May dig holes, erect poles and send tools and/or materials up to linemen by means of a hand line.
(k) Maintains daily e-time record.
(l) Observes Lineman work on pole and anticipates Lineman's needs for material and tools
(m) Assists Linemen in preparing materials for use at the work site -- performs tasks as assigned by the Crew Leader.
(n) Performs manual labor type tasks as assigned by crew foreman such as cleaning truck, loading material, digging ditches, tamping, cutting brush, and moving materials.
(o) Learns to safely operate digger derrick, bucket truck, trencher, back hoe, etc.
(p) Trains for Lineman position by learning, on-the-job, skills related to line work.
(q) Follows Cooperative, NEC, RUS, OSHA, and state and other regulatory agency safety procedures and rules in the performance of all work.
(r) Assists Linemen in equipment maintenance duties.
(s) Maintains vigilance for safety hazards.
(t) Participates in safety meetings, training programs and annual meeting as required.
(u) Participates in annual training for necessary certifications such as, but not limited to Pole Top Rescue, CPR, Hazardous Materials, Etc.
Experience
(a) High school diploma or equivalent required.
(b) Must possess an entry-level working knowledge of the construction, operations, and maintenance of electric distribution lines, both overhead and underground; RUS Construction specifications and a portion of the National Electric Safety Code.
(c) Must have sound knowledge of the proper and safe use of the tools and equipment used in line construction and maintenance of both energized and de-energized lines.
(d) Must have a thorough knowledge of first aid and CPR.
(e) Must be able to become skilled in underground and overhead line operation, in pole climbing, in operation of line construction equipment and in using line worker tools while working on the ground, on a pole and from a bucket truck.
(f) Must be able to become skilled in proper and safe use of working with live conductors of voltages from 0 to 25 kV.
(g) Must be able to become skilled in all work required in connection with the installation of materials, apparatus, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines.
(h) Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's license or be able to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
(i) Must be fluent in basic computer functions.
Pay: $22.94 - $27.77 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
