Tri-City Group is seeking a Safety Coordinator to oversee day-to-day safety within our Offsite Manufacturing (OSM) fabrication facility in Davenport, IA. Unlike our field-based operations, this environment operates under general industry/manufacturing safety standards — machine guarding, material handling, powered industrial trucks, welding and hot work, and other shop-floor hazards. This role is based on-site and works directly with fabrication shop leadership and employees to build a strong, consistent safety culture on the shop floor.

This is a hands-on role for a safety professional who enjoys being present on the floor every day — observing work, coaching employees, and partnering with shop supervision to solve problems — while also handling the administrative and compliance work that keeps a manufacturing safety program running smoothly.

Essential Functions Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Identify and help correct hazards related to machine guarding, powered industrial trucks (forklifts, overhead cranes), material handling, welding/hot work, assembly operations, and other general industry exposures specific to a fabrication environment.
  • Partner with shop supervisors and leads to reinforce safe work practices and hold crews accountable to safety expectations in a constructive, coaching-oriented way.
  • Support pre-job planning and job safety analyses (JSAs) for fabrication tasks and processes.
  • Assist in development of safety KPI’s to gauge performance.

Compliance & Program Administration

  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910), including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, respiratory protection, and PPE requirements.
  • Conduct required inspections (e.g., crane and rigging, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, PIT/forklift) and maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation.
  • Coordinate required employee training specific to the manufacturing environment, including forklift/PIT certification, hot work, machine guarding, and other task-specific topics.
  • Assist HQ in maintain OSHA recordkeeping (300/300A logs) for the facility and support incident investigation and reporting.
  • Track corrective actions from inspections, audits, and incident investigations through to completion.

Incident Response & Investigation

  • Respond to injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents at the facility, ensuring proper first aid/medical response and timely reporting.
  • Lead or support incident investigations to identify root causes and contributing factors, and help shop leadership implement corrective actions.
  • Facilitate Learning Team-style debriefs after significant events, focused on understanding what happened and strengthening controls rather than assigning blame.

Culture & Communication

  • Build strong day-to-day relationships with fabrication employees, earning trust through visibility, consistency, and follow-through.
  • Lead or support safety meetings, toolbox talks, and daily huddles specific to the shop environment.
  • Serve as a resource for employees to raise safety concerns, near misses, or suggestions, and ensure concerns are addressed and closed out.
  • Collaborate with the broader Safety & Training team to align OSM-specific practices with Tri-City Group's overall safety program and culture.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or related field preferred.
  • 3 years of safety experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, industrial, general industry, or construction environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910), particularly as they relate to machine guarding, lockout/tagout, material handling, equipment, and assembly.
  • Comfortable spending the majority of the workday on the shop floor, engaging directly with employees and supervisors.
  • Strong observation, communication, and coaching skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels of the facility.
  • Experience with incident investigation and OSHA recordkeeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.
  • Experience in structural, electrical, or mechanical fabrication or manufacturing settings.
  • Forklift/powered industrial truck and crane/rigging inspection experience.
  • Knowledge or experience working with Industrial Hygiene programs.
  • Familiarity with human and organizational performance (HOP) principles or SIF programs.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This role is based primarily on the fabrication shop floor and requires extended periods of standing, walking, and moving through an active manufacturing environment. Work involves exposure to noise, dust, fumes from welding/hot work, and proximity to moving machinery, powered industrial trucks, and material handling equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and is required at all times on the shop floor. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.
