We are seeking a hands-on Quality Manager to lead our Quality function and drive compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Position Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with AS9100, internal standards, and customer requirements. This role leads the quality team, manages audits and corrective actions, and partners closely with Engineering and Production to drive measurable improvements in quality and performance.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining certification, reducing defects, and ensuring customer satisfaction in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.
What Success Looks Like
- Maintain AS9100 certification with successful audit outcomes
- Reduce internal defects, rework, and cost of poor quality (COPQ)
- Improve customer quality performance (scorecards, escapes, RMAs)
- Drive timely and effective corrective actions (internal and external)
- Build a strong, accountable, and capable quality team
Quality Oversight & Compliance
- Manage and maintain the QMS in compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements
- Ensure execution of inspections, audits, and quality controls
- Oversee NCRs, RMAs, FAIs, and engineering change activities
- Lead internal and external audits, including customer and registrar audits
- Ensure adherence to specifications, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Support contract review and risk assessment processes
- Serve as primary point of contact for customer quality interactions
- Manage customer audits, corrective actions (SCARs), and scorecards
- Partner with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve performance
- Lead, coach, and develop Quality Inspectors, Engineers, and Test Technicians
- Manage hiring, onboarding, and performance management within the department
- Ensure proper staffing and coverage to meet production demands
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action efforts
- Implement sustainable improvements to reduce defects and variation
- Drive process improvements in collaboration with Production and Engineering
- Track and report KPIs to leadership (scrap, rework, FPY, customer returns, etc.)
- Provide data-driven insights to support operational and strategic decisions
Education & Experience
- 7 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment
- 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Experience in AS9100 or ISO-certified environments required
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and MIL standards
- Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 (certification preferred)
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies
- Strong understanding of quality systems, audits, and continuous improvement tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems
- Familiarity with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
