Job Summary

The Production Assembler – Soldering, is responsible for the assembly and soldering of cable and wire harness assemblies used in electrical and electronic systems. This includes soldering wires, connectors, and components in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience working to Class 3 workmanship standards per J-STD-001 and IPC/WHMA-A-620, with a strong focus on precision, reliability, and consistency. This role is critical in ensuring that all assemblies meet the highest levels of quality and functionality required for high-reliability applications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assemble cables, wire harnesses, and subassemblies according to engineering drawings, diagrams, work instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Perform hand soldering of wires, terminals, and connectors in compliance with IPC and J-STD-001 standards (Class 3 workmanship).
  • Operate hand tools, soldering irons, microscopes, heat guns, hot tweezers, and other specialized assembly equipment safely and effectively.
  • Crimp, cut, strip, and terminate wires and cables using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Insert and adjust wires, cores, tubes, and fittings into molds using hand tools and depth gauges, ensuring alignment and proper fit.
  • Clean excess material from finished parts using cutters and vibrating tools to meet cosmetic and functional standards.
  • Identify and correct soldering defects or damaged components through rework and retesting as necessary.
  • Inspect and test finished assemblies for conformance to specifications using microscopes, visual inspection, and electronic testing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including scanning jobs in ERP systems and completing travelers or MES documentation.
  • Follow safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and company policies to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Adhere to 5S principles to maintain clean, organized, and efficient workstations.
  • Collaborate with team members, leads, and supervisors to resolve production issues and support daily workflow.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying inefficiencies, suggesting process enhancements, and supporting quality initiatives.
  • Support training and development by assisting junior assemblers and sharing best practices.

Other responsibilities, initiatives and ad-hoc projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on soldering and assembly experience in electronics manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of basic assembly procedures.
  • Experience with soldering wire, connectors and cable assemblies.
  • Prior work in aerospace, medical devices, or other high-reliability environments (preferred).

Knowledge:

  • Previous knowledge of cable and wire harness assembly required.
  • Familiarity with J-STD-001 and/or IPC-620 standards (certification preferred).

Skills:

  • Must be able to pass soldering test provided by company
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to work under a microscope for extended periods.
  • Good manual dexterity and steady hand-eye coordination.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work overtime.

  • Utilize fine motor skills and visual acuity when working with tools such as cutters, vibrating cleaning tools, and microscopes
  • Lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and consistent with a typical electronics manufacturing setting. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas.

Compensation: $18-$20 per hour
