Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Summary:
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, cranes, loaders, and more. This role requires excellent technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work independently in remote locations.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Inspect heavy equipment, identify mechanical and electrical issues, and diagnose problems accurately.
- Perform regular inspections to identify and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication to prevent breakdowns.
- Repair and replace faulty components, such as engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Conduct comprehensive equipment tests to ensure proper functionality and safety compliance.
- Document all repairs and maintenance activities accurately and efficiently using equipment management software HCSS and EQ360.
- Ensure accurate data entry and record-keeping to facilitate efficient equipment management.
- Keep up to date with the latest industry standards, equipment technologies, and repair techniques.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Travel to various job sites, both locally and out of town, to perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment.
- Collaborate with other mechanics and technicians to resolve complex issues.
- Collaborate with other team members, including operators, foremen and supervisors, to ensure efficient equipment performance.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, with a strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, cranes, loaders, etc.
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools, such as computerized testing equipment and handheld devices.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment systems, including engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in remote locations.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and record-keeping.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written for interacting with team members and supervision.
- Willingness to travel out of town for extended periods, sometimes on short notice.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Familiarity with equipment maintenance software, HCSS and EQ360 is a plus.
Conditions of Employment
- Successful completion of background checks and D&A tests as required by employer.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Have a valid Driver’s License.
- Clean MVR record
- Must be able to pass DOT Physical
- Compliance with safety regulations and protocols at all times.

- Must provide your own tools such as impacts, sockets, wrenches, and other various hand tools
Physical Requirements
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
- Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment parts and tools, sometimes exceeding 50 pounds.
- Stamina to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
- Stamina to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary.
- Mobility to crawl, climb, and maneuver in tight spaces within equipment.
- Good vision, hearing, and hand-eye coordination for equipment diagnostics and repairs.
- Manual dexterity for precise tool and equipment manipulation.
Ability to Work Out of Town When Needed
- Heavy Equipment Mechanics may be required to travel to job sites or remote locations to perform maintenance and repairs on equipment. This may involve staying overnight or for extended periods away from home.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel as needed are important aspects of the job.
- Must be willing to travel to our West Texas location and stay for 2 weeks on a rotation schedule with other mechanics.
