What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tree Care Production Manager position at Tree Trust?
Job Purpose: To provide leadership, support, and training for all members of the Tree Care production team so they can meet or exceed career and production goals.
Job Summary: This field production position leads all Tree Care Supervisors, Tree Care Specialists, and Tree Care Technicians in daily operations including residential, commercial, and municipal property tree care maintenance, quality control, and safety.
Essential Functions:
- Leadership
- Set the attendance, accountability, and professionalism standard for all tree care production employees.
- Meet or exceed hourly rate and annual revenue goals.
- Clearly communicate work plans and progress with Sales Arborists and administrative support staff.
- Lead the career development of tree care production staff.
- Daily preparation of trucks, equipment, and inventory.
- Report on time to prepare and review the work schedule with the Tree Care teams.
- Direct supervisors in the loading of all tools, fuel, and other necessary equipment/materials. Make sure all equipment is secured safely.
- Establish and hold Tree Care team accountable to non-billable goals including shop departure.
- Ensure routine, necessary field maintenance is performed on all tools and equipment.
- Work with Operations team to schedule annual and service specific maintenance on trucks and equipment.
- Day-to-day workflow: Follow instruction from Sales Arborists to accurately perform and manage tree care tasks on client’s property including all aspects of tree removal, pruning, cabling, treating, planting, etc.
- Work in conjunction with the Sales Arborists to ensure that work contracted is implemented efficiently and according to contract specifications.
- Act as direct conduit between sales and field production crews.
- Assign crews, vehicles and equipment to jobs based on productivity and capability.
- Participate in weekly scheduling meetings.
- Perform all tasks of operations including but not limited to climbing, pruning, inspecting, tree removal, etc.
- Receive and deliver on-site training including safety, equipment use, technique, etc.
- Follow the proper use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Address any questions or concerns with clients professionally. Communicate the client’s questions and concerns to the Sales Arborist immediately.
- Perform end-of-the-day duties.
- Communicate any change in job scope or job schedule with Sales Arborists and administrative staff.
- Accurately record and submit hours worked in LMN and ensure all tree care members do the same.
- Review and prepare for the next day’s work.
- Unload/load equipment & material, clean out truck/trailer by removing trash, debris, etc.
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of all tools and equipment.
- Responsible for organization of trucks, equipment, and tools in yard and shop areas to ensure efficient workflow.
- Strictly adhere to Tree Trust’s safety policies and procedures including the ANSI Z133 for Tree Care Operations
- Assist LS Snow, Construction and Lawn Maintenance departments as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record as determined by our insurance carrier.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background and motor vehicle check.
- Must possess and maintain MN DOT medical certificate.
- Possess or able to obtain ISA certification within 90 days of hire.
- Possess or be able to obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of hire.
- Possess or be able to acquire chemical applicator license with endorsements A, E and J within 90 days of hire.
- 5-10 years of experience operating power equipment including aerial lifts, chain saws, skid steers, woodchippers, and stump grinders.
- Climbing experience using ropes and saddle, including working knowledge of knots, and climbing hardware, to perform tree care tasks.
- Experience using cranes and/or ropes for controlled rigging and removal.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and work well within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in forestry, horticulture, or related field
- 5-10 years of production arborist experience
Work Environment: Job will require constantly working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and exposure to elements. This can include heavy to moderate noise, extreme proximity to moving equipment or machinery, proximity to electrical energy, exposure to tools and machines used in tree care and landscaping industries.
Physical demand: Physical demands require frequently moving, walking, climbing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequently ascends and descends trees using climbing rigging to perform work. Frequently operates machinery and will use hands/fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect and position materials. Frequently required to stand and walk, lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Constantly required to communicate with ability to talk and hear.
