EDM Set Up & Operations Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Wire EDM and/or RAM EDM Set Up & Operations Specialist who takes pride in high-precision machining, continuous improvement, and producing complex parts with tight tolerances.

This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining EDM machinery to produce precision components that meet strict quality and performance requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate Wire EDM and/or RAM EDM machines to produce precision components according to engineering specifications.
• Operate Mitsubishi Wire EDM machines and/or Makino EDM machines for complex, tight-tolerance parts.
• Review job folders including routers, setup sheets, blueprints, and setup photos to understand machining sequences and finished part requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation to determine machining operations and finished dimensions.
• Analyze machining issues and troubleshoot setups, programs, or tooling to resolve production challenges.
• Modify NC code when required to improve machining effectiveness, process efficiency, and part quality.
• Inspect finished components and perform in-process checks to verify all dimensional and specification requirements are met.
• Accurately record labor hours, machine time, part quantities, and scrap according to company standards.
• Maintain job documentation including job folders, inspection sheets, setup sheets, and related records.
• Perform preventive maintenance and machine upkeep to ensure equipment operates at peak performance.
• Coordinate with supervisors and team members to support production schedules and workflow.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Plan and support lights-out EDM manufacturing through strategic job planning and machine readiness.
• Recommend improvements to production methods, tooling, fixtures, and machining processes.
• Assist with fixture design and layout when required.
• Support training and onboarding of new EDM operators when needed.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of experience setting up and operating Wire EDM and/or RAM EDM machines in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of EDM NC code and machine controls.
• Experience with Mitsubishi Wire EDM, Makino EDM, or similar EDM equipment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, machining drawings, and setup documentation.
• Experience performing in-process inspection and verifying tight tolerance components.
• Vocational training or machining apprenticeship preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while operating machinery.
• Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs when required.
