Key responsibilities of a Speech-language pathology assistants (SLPA) include:
Screening and Assessment:
SLPA will help SLPs conduct screenings, assessments, and evaluations of speech, language, voice, fluency, articulation, and hearing.
Diagnostic Evaluation:
SLPA will help SLPs administering comprehensive assessments to determine the specific nature and severity of a student's communication challenges.
Direct Therapy Provision:
Providing individual or small group therapy sessions to address identified speech and language goals using appropriate therapeutic techniques and materials.
Parent Communication:
Communicating with parents about their child's speech and language development
Required skills and qualifications:Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
Strong assessment and diagnostic skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with SLP, students, parents, and colleague
