Addiction Counselor
We are hiring a motivated individual who want to work in Substance Abuse Treatment using a combination of physical fitness training in conjunction with clinical therapy.
A counselor is needed but we are open to people who work in different fields, who want to make a difference. If you do not have credentials we can help with education and training.
Day-to-Day Job Duties:
- Interviews clients, reviews records, and confers with other professionals to evaluate condition of client.
- Counsels clients individually and/or in group sessions using counseling methods and procedures, such as psychotherapy, to assist clients in overcoming alcohol and/or drug dependency and to gain insight into personal and interactive problems, to define goals, and to plan action, reflecting interest, abilities, and needs.
- Monitors condition of clients to evaluate adherence to program, progress, and overall success of treatment; also monitors participant’s adherence to admission contract and code of conduct.
- Develop master treatment plan within (14) days of admission for assigned individuals; review with each client for buy-in/acceptance no later than the 14th day.
- Meet with treatment team once a week to discuss/update treatment plan progress.
- Develop client treatment schedule 24-hours prior to admittance and assign/communicate to client on date of admittance.
- Prepares progress notes for each client daily after each session in Kipu.
- Manages treatment plan of assigned individual(s), including incorporating changes weekly, or as needed; will be the only person responsible for making physical adjustments to treatment plan of assigned client(s).
- Serve as liaison for families participating in, or supporting patients treatment and recovery, including the following: o Update families with patients progress (with patients consent only) o Facilitate family counseling sessions
- Discusses participant case with families as necessary (when permitted to do so in writing)
- Counsels participants individually or in groups on planned or experimental basis and in emergencies
- Instruction and monitoring of a one to two-hour addiction education group, 5 times per week
- Monitors/evaluates participant progress at each session and records this progress in Kipu within 24 hours of session
- Meet with treatment team once a week to discuss/update patient struggles and progress
- Communicates and coordinates with treatment team to ensure coherence with clinical policies
- Shall prepare all addiction education lesson plans (1) week in advance of implementation, be well versed in all corresponding curriculum, and be able to demonstrate knowledge and preparedness to clinical director prior to implementing each weeks lesson plans
- Shall be currently certified/registered and/or taking steps to obtain certification/registration as a Certified Drug and Alcohol counselor; must be obtained within (6) months of employment
- Must participate in modality specific training with clinical director, per schedule defined by clinical director in order to be able to obtain knowledge of THR developed curriculum
- Assess client retention of addiction education materials through bi-weekly exams administered by addiction education counselor
- Will communicate prospective issues regarding client welfare as well as client retention of said curriculum
- Take steps and work in conjunction with clinical director to identify problem areas or variables relating to retention of said curriculum, and plan for improvement
- Shall arrive (15) minutes before start of addiction education group with prepared and approved lesson plan
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, and/or one or more years related experience and/or training in substance use disorder counseling
- Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) and a minimum two years related experience and/or training.
- Adequate Clinical Credentials for all company licensing and accreditation
