Job Summary
The Utility Line Clearance Arborist is responsible for performing tree trimming, pruning, and removal activities around energized power lines to ensure safe and reliable electric service. This position requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and the ability to safely operate line‑clearance equipment in accordance with OSHA, ANSI, and company safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform line clearance tree trimming and vegetation management around energized electrical conductors in accordance with ANSI A300 and OSHA regulations
- Safely remove hazardous trees and limbs using climbing techniques, bucket trucks, chainsaws, and other arboricultural equipment
- Operate commercial vehicles and equipment requiring a CDL, including bucket trucks, chip trucks, and other heavy equipment
- Identify tree species, growth patterns, and potential hazards that may impact utility infrastructure
- Maintain proper clearances for distribution and transmission lines
- Follow all safety policies, including job briefings, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and, when required, property owners or the public
- Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs
- Complete required documentation, work orders, and safety reports
- Respond to emergency and storm restoration work as needed, including after‑hours and weekend assignments
Required Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A or B (air brakes preferred)
- Minimum [X] years of experience in utility line clearance or related arborist work
- Knowledge of line clearance practices and electrical hazard awareness
- Ability to safely operate chainsaws, aerial lifts, and climbing equipment
- Physically capable of performing strenuous outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance
- Ability to work at heights and around energized power lines
Preferred Qualifications
- ISA Certified Arborist or Utility Specialist certification
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience working with electric utilities or vegetation management contractors
- Storm response and emergency restoration experience
