POSITION PURPOSE:
The Program Nurse is responsible for nursing assessment plan, and oversees the medical and psychiatric management of the patient coordination with the attending physician, ARNP, or PA-C. He/she is also a member of the Treatment Team and provides input into a client’s treatment. He/she functions under the guidance of their State Licensure within Our Company in accordance of State and Federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Accountable for leading a WE CARE culture that focuses on our mission to provide a transformational influence to patients and their loved ones.
- Facilitates team interaction for discharge planning.
- Collects and records data in a comprehensive accurate and systematic manner.
- Indicates and completes initial nursing assessment within 24 hours.
- Evaluates the impact of therapeutic interventions upon a therapeutic milieu.
- Knows and understands the company’s policies and procedures.
- Shares pertinent information with team as obtained from patients or family throughout program.
- Collaborates with the medical staff to provide medical and nursing care.
- Attends monthly staff and Performance Improvement meetings.
- Documents client progress/regress according to established policies and procedures.
- Reports communicable diseases in a timely fashion to the Public Health Department.
- Performs clinical nursing activities in a safe, professional manner.
- Maintains compliance with established nursing care standards.
- Supervises and instructs patients in medication self-administration (if applicable), including the preparation and giving of injections ordered by the doctor.
- Obtains lab specimens as ordered by the doctor.
- Assists clients in obtaining medication from pharmacy.
- Provides health and medication education to clients.
- Continues with educational courses and in-service trainings, per policies and procedures.
- Updates knowledge of community resources on a continuous basis.
- Assess all clients and document daily.
- Maintains current CPR certification and other necessary certifications, including maintaining of license.
- Demonstrates objectivity and maturity under stress.
- Responds positively to changing situations in the workplace.
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Demonstrates good communication skills.
- Performs in a professional manner and role-model a positive image of mental health.
- Obtains physician orders for admission upon patient’s arrival.
- Reports abuse of patient’s rights immediately.
- Participates in obtaining the patient’s informed consent for procedures, treatments as appropriate.
- Knows and understands Baker Act and medical procedures, which includes calling the emergency release if there is an emergency at the facility.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medication actions, side effects, and contraindications.
- Provides groups as scheduled.
- Document on the appropriate form, in a legible, accurate, clear and concise manner.
- Performs other tasks, as assigned.
- Assists the medical director, ARNP, and/or PA-C with lists of clients that need to be seen, charts which need to be signed, labs which need to be reviewed, etc.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited college or university with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Vocational training could be substituted for a degree. Vocational training could be substituted for a degree or other license pertaining to nursing.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years experience in psychiatry, preferably in a substance abuse program or equivalent.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Ohio; maintaining current licensure per state requirements. Maintains current CPR certification.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE:
- Knowledge of the Principles and Practices of the discipline.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards.
- Demonstrates Proficiency in Communication & Written skills.
- Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality laws.
- Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies. Knowledge of Workplace Violence
