POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Corporate Accounting is responsible for the corporate accounting operations, financial reporting, and consolidations. This role ensures full compliance with U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP) applicable to insurance entities. The Director leads the consolidation processes, manages external audit and tax activities and provides technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, including insurance-specific areas such as reinsurance, technical accounting, and regulatory reporting.
This position requires a strong leader with deep expertise in GAAP, audit, and multi-entity consolidations, as well as experience within the Property and Casualty insurance industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own and lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Oversee the consolidation ledger activities, account reconciliations, and reporting integrity
- Manage multi-entity consolidations, including intercompany eliminations
- Insurance-Specific Compliance (GAAP & SAP)
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and its conversion to statutory accounting principles (SAP)
- Stay current on evolving insurance regulations and accounting guidance
Technical Accounting
- Lead research, interpretation, and implementation of new accounting standards
- Address complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition, reserves, reinsurance, and investments
- Partner with actuarial, investment, and tax teams on technical matters
- Prepare technical accounting memos and documentation
Audit & Internal Controls
- Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and manage annual audit processes
- Support and assist in maintaining a strong internal control environment (SOX, if applicable)
- Develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies and internal controls
- Address audit findings and ensure timely remediation
Process Improvement & Systems
- Assist in finance transformation initiatives, including ERP implementations and upgrades
- Identify opportunities for automation, AI adoption, and process optimization
- Enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the close and reporting processes
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
- Establish clear goals, provide coaching, and support career development
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with FP&A, actuarial, tax, and investment teams to support business initiatives
- Provide accounting guidance for strategic transactions and new business activities
- Support regulatory filings and compliance requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, Master’s degree preferred
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong experience in the insurance industry (P&C) required
- Public accounting experience (Big 4 or top 10 national firm) required
- Proven experience with consolidations and audit management
- Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP)
- Strong expertise in financial reporting, audit processes, and internal controls
- Experience with insurance accounting areas such as reinsurance and investment accounting
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Excel
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing accounting teams
- Strong project management and process improvement capabilities
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities

Salary : $145,000 - $165,000
