Job Description
Drives trucks requiring a Class A CDL to include a tractor trailer, with a lowboy / flatbed trailer to transport materials, merchandise, equipment between various types of jobs.
Includes driving and operating a water truck and / or water trailer for preparation of the lift sites when needed. Has ability to load or unload truck with or without helpers and secure loads to be transported, make minor mechanical repairs, and keep truck in good working order.
Work with crane operators to haul and help position bomb proofs and blast shields. Works directly with Heavy Equipment Operators.
Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or test related material between different locations on the YPG Test Range or off-site locations.
Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved. Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.
Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook. Gives directions to Bridge-or-Gantry-Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, or telephone.
Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools, power tools and wrenches. Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle.
May direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Qualifications
Pay Rate : $29.72
Education / Licenses / Certifications / Experience Requirements :
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and maintain for the duration of employment, without special restrictions.
- Must have Tanker endorsement.
- Must have two years’ experience assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or material.
Job Skills Requirements :
- Has extensive knowledge, training, and experience sufficient to calculate loads, load weights, safe capacities and apply other safe rigging principles and procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize rigging materials and principles.
- Is capable of safely inspecting and performing rigging operations.
- Be able to communicate effectively with the crane operator, the lift supervisor,
signal person and affected personnel on site.
Have basic knowledge and understanding of equipment-operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations and one whose competence in this skill has been demonstrated through training and experience.
Physical Requirements :
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, DOT physical and periodic retests.
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
- Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for the Maintenance Division.
- Must be capable of climbing up and into large vehicles up to 10 feet high.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be capable of kneeling, bending and standing while performing rigging duties.

- Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
- Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
Additional Desirable Qualifications :
A minimum of one year of previous hands-on experience with crane signaling.
Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements :
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizenships.
- Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
