Job Description
Performs all standard duties associated with providing temperature-conditioned ammunition for developmental and operational testing, as well as for training events with minimal supervision. Operates environmental conditioning chambers to simulate temperature conditions required or testing and performs operational checks of chamber operations to ensure environmental conditions are met. Applies technical knowledge to solve problems related to environmental conditioning chambers operations and failure corrections. Transports ammunition from ammunition plants or storage areas to conditioning chambers located adjacent to gun positions, positioned throughout YPG ranges. Manually loads ammunition of varying sizes into conditioning chambers and delivers rounds from the chambers to the gun position as required by the Test Officer and test without assistance. Accurately follows standard load lists from Test Officers. Maintains accurate accountability of ammunition and ammunition expenditures. Is competent in Hazard Classification, Division, and placarding. Relocates conditioning chambers to various locations on the Kofa and Cibola firing ranges and dispenses liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) from mobile tankers to deployed conditioning chambers. Cross-trains to support other mission areas in the Ammunition Group. Works day or night shift on a rotating basis, as needed to support testing. Provides good customer service. Works independently and as part of a crew or team providing test support. Performs other duties as assigned to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education/Licenses/Certifications/Experience Requirements:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Class A commercial driver's license with a Hazmat endorsement and maintain CDL for the duration of employment in the section.
  • Must have and maintain an Arms, Ammunition, & Explosives clearance.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year as a Conditioning Chambers Tech I.

Job Skills Requirements:

  • Must be willing and able to perform the work necessary to manually load ammunition into conditioning chambers.
  • Must be able to apply technical knowledge to solve problems related to environmental conditioning chambers operations and failure corrections.
  • Must be able to successfully fire programs with little or no guidance.
  • Must be able to pump CO2 and move conditioning chambers with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to connect and start a conditioning chamber with minimum supervision.
  • Must competently apply knowledge of hazard classifications and basic placarding.
  • Must be able to accurately follow a load list from a Test Officer.
  • Must competently apply knowledge and understanding of ammunition accountability.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
  • Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for Conditioning Chambers.
  • Must be capable of lifting 105 lbs. chest high unassisted repeatedly during the duty day.
  • Must be able to lift and transport 105 lbs. unassisted over uneven ground for 50 ft.
  • Must be able to work in and around controlled extreme weather conditions reaching from -65 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend equipment.
  • Must be tolerant of frequent weapons systems firings.
  • Must not have color vision deficiency.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
  • Must be able to work all shifts on a rotating basis, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
  • Must be able speak, write, read, and understand English.
  • Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude.
  • Must be willing to cross-train in other areas.
  • Must use "down-time" effectively to the benefit of test, self, and company.
  • Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable.
  • Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability.
  • Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to follow instructions and company policy.
  • Must be able to deliver quality products to the customer and be responsive to their needs.
  • Must be safety and security conscious, complying with rules and policies.
  • Must be able to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Must be able to move throughout the range safely and in accordance with (IAW) range requirements.
  • Must be able to accurately and completely fill out required paperwork.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience operating environmental conditioning equipment of similar complexity.
  • Knowledge or background in ammunition related field.
  • Basic electrical or HVAC experience
  • Forklift operations experience.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Outlook and the Internet.

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
