Traverse City Light & Power (TCLP) is a municipally owned electric and telecom utility serving approximately 13,000 electric and 3,000 fiber customers. Position Overview
TCLP is seeking a dynamic and people-oriented Business Account Specialist to serve as the primary liaison between the utility and its non-residential customers, including commercial, industrial, governmental, and educational accounts. This role is essential in building and enhancing customer relationships, supporting strategic planning, and delivering integrated energy and utility solutions tailored to business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the main point of contact for non-residential customers, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and engagement.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with business customers to understand their priorities and align utility services accordingly.
- Conduct customer-centric needs assessments to align TCLP services with evolving non-residential customer needs, including service planning, growth projections, energy solutions, resilience, and sustainability initiatives.
- Conduct regular site visits, consultations, and planning sessions with customers to support both immediate and long-term operational needs.
- Analyze customer usage and organizational operations to recommend tailored service and energy solutions that support continuity, cost management, and long-term planning.
- Collect, manage, and analyze customer data to identify trends, needs, and priorities, ensuring these insights inform TCLP’s planning and decision-making.
- Facilitate customer education on utility programs, energy efficiency, and sustainability efforts.
- Represent TCLP at community and business events to promote services and build partnerships.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, community development, communications, public administration, or a related field. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in customer relationship management, business account management, or utility services.
- Strong understanding of utility operations, energy solutions, and business customer needs.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
- Proficiency in data analysis and customer insight integration.
