The Medical Malpractice / Litigation Paralegal plays a critical role in supporting attorneys by managing complex medical malpractice cases from inception through resolution. The paralegal will coordinate with medical experts, clients, and opposing counsel to facilitate case preparation and ensure compliance with legal procedures and deadlines. Ultimately, this role is essential in enabling attorneys to effectively advocate for clients in high-stakes medical malpractice litigation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience, with at least 2 years focused on medical malpractice or complex litigation.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and legal procedures related to medical malpractice cases.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized paralegal organization such as NALA or NFPA.
- Experience working in a law firm specializing in medical malpractice or personal injury litigation.
- Familiarity with electronic discovery (e-discovery) processes and software.
- Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed review and analysis of medical records, depositions, and other relevant documents to identify key facts and issues.
- Assist attorneys in drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and settlement documents specific to medical malpractice cases.
- Coordinate and communicate with medical experts, clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel to gather information and schedule depositions or meetings.
- Manage case files, track deadlines, and ensure all litigation procedures comply with court rules and regulations.
- Prepare trial exhibits, organize evidence, and support attorneys during trial preparation and proceedings.
