Description: Senior Director of Transit Operations
The Senior Director of Transit Operations plays a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of Jaunt’s transit services, ensuring high standards of quality assurance, operational efficiency, and outstanding customer service. This position directly supervises Road Supervisors, Call Center Supervisor, Safety Manager and Training Supervisor, holding them accountable to established expectations while fostering a supportive and morale-boosting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership:
- Manage and lead approximately 6 Supervisors and 1 Manager, ensuring proper training and performance standards are met.
- Monitor and evaluate supervisory staff to maintain operational excellence and adherence to policies.
Quality Assurance and Control:
- Develop and implement quality assurance measures to maintain high service standards.
- Establish and monitor KPIs such as on-time performance, supervisor response times, headway management, and absenteeism.
- Conduct regular reviews of operational processes, identifying and implementing improvements.
Training and Development:
- Facilitate training for new and current supervisors, ensuring compliance with regulations and enhancing their skills.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for the supervisory team.
Accountability and Expectations:
- Hold Supervisors accountable to performance metrics, operational goals, and behavioral standards.
- Address performance issues promptly and constructively to ensure alignment with organizational standards.
Supervisory Functions:
- Provide direct oversight of Road Supervisors, ensuring adherence to department policies and procedures.
- Provide assistance at accident scenes, ensuring adherence to FTA regulations for post-accident testing.
- Create supervisor checklist for reach function area of the department.
- Verify that Supervisor and Operator DOT Medical Examiner’s card and CDL license are up to date.
- Manage performance evaluations for supervisory staff.
- Actively boosts morale among supervisory teams and operators by addressing concerns, resolving conflict, and recognizing achievements.
Reports and Documentation:
- Draft briefs, memos, and reports to communicate updates and insights to stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of operational activities and recommendations.
Performs other job-related duties as requested. This position requires a pre-employment drug screen. Employment is contingent on a clean driving record that allows employee to be covered by Jaunt’s insurance. Continued employment is contingent upon adherence to Jaunt’s Substance Abuse Policy, as well as on maintaining a clean driving record.

Salary Range: $97,594-$129,312
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of all aspects of transit operations and safety programs.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the transit industry.
- Knowledge of the service area geography and of types of equipment.
- Knowledge of principles of supervision, motivation, and counseling.
- Considerable knowledge of policies and procedures, rules and regulations affecting transit operation.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely, to understand views and concerns of others, operate a radio system, to solve operator problems.
- Knowledge of transit runs, and operating procedures.
- Must display sound decision-making.
- Knowledge of the Drug & Alcohol Policy and regulations.
- Knowledge of Weather Policies and implementation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Requirements:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in transit operations, including at least five (5) years in a senior leadership or management role.
Experience with multiple transit modes (fixed-route, paratransit, micro transit) preferred.
· Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Virginia Drivers’ license required. CDL preferred.
