Position Summary:
Haywood County Schools is seeking a dedicated and skilled Transportation Mechanic I to join our Transportation Department. The Transportation Mechanic I will be responsible for maintaining the operational efficiency and safety of our school buses and other district vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance, possess excellent problem-solving skills, and demonstrate the ability to perform minor repairs. This position requires a proactive individual who can follow instructions meticulously and operate various machines for vehicle repair.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on school buses and other district vehicles, including tire replacement, fuel dispensing, washing vehicles, and other necessary repairs.
- Operate various machines and tools to diagnose and repair vehicle issues effectively.
- Identify problems in vehicles and conduct minor repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Follow oral and written instructions from supervisors and maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Adhere to State School Bus Operational Procedures and ensure compliance with CDL and School Bus License Training programs.
- Earn and maintain a Class A CDL with P, S, and N endorsements as well as OBDII and Bus Inspection certifications.
- Collaborate with the transportation team to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks based on safety and operational requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance, including tire replacement, fuel dispensing, and washing vehicles.
- Skills in operating various machines for diagnosing and repairing vehicles.
- Ability to identify problems and perform minor repairs on school buses and other district vehicles.
- Capability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Knowledge of procedures and programs for CDL and School Bus License Training preferred.
- Familiarity with State School Bus Operational Procedures preferred.
- Must be able to earn and maintain a Class A CDL with P, S, and N endorsements, as well as OBDII and Bus Inspection certifications.
- Minimum age requirement: 21 years.
Compenstation: Follows State pay scale according to experience.
