What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at Transportation?
Reports To: Director of Transportation
Length of Work Year: 12 months
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs, diagnoses and repairs district’s automotive equipment.
- Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
- Performs general automotive repair and preventive maintenance as required.
- Knowledge of camera and GPS systems for buses.
- Knowledge of radio communication equipment for buses
- Substitute on bus routes as needed.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency at automotive mechanical repair.
- Successful experience with recommendations from references.
- Evidence of ability to adapt to mechanical repair assignments made by the Shop Foreman or Director of Transportation.
- Satisfactory driving record with a valid Commercial Drivers License, Class B with “P” passenger endorsement, “S” school bus endorsement and an air brake endorsement.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment: Standard mechanic shop settings; may require moderate-high travel; exposure to potentially stressful environments; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental and hazardous conditions.
Physical: Sufficient physical ability to perform heavy lifting; regularly required to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; may require climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
