JOB DESCRIPTION:          DISPATCH CLERK/ROUTE & TRIP COORDINATOR

 

SALARY SCHEDULE:         SCHEDULE G

 

DEPARTMENT:                  TRANSPORTATION

 

FLSA STATUS:                   NON-EXEMPT

 

SAFETY-SENSITIVE:         YES

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the organization of the dispatch office. Assist with sub driver assignments, scheduling daily bus routes & activity trips. Works with school AD’s and Principal and site secretaries in scheduling their bus needs.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • One (1) year of college; or two (2) years of related experience and/or training in the transportation business; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  1. Develop Daily and Activity bus routes based on the needs of the District and available drivers. Adjust routes in response to addition or reduction of drivers and student populations. 
  1. Assign activity trips based on a regular driver rotation. Enter time from activity trips into the Driver’s time sheet. 
  1. Communicate with athletic directors, principals, teachers, coaches, and general public on Transportation Department projects to obtain and/or convey information. 
  1. Assist in office routines: answering, handling/interceding, and/or appropriately forwarding phone calls. 
  1. Prepare monthly and annual ‘Activity Reports’ and activity trip account records 
  1. Demonstrate competency with various software programs and applications, including but not limited to; word processors, spreadsheets, PowerSchool, and Traversa. 
  1. Possess and maintain a current Class B CDL with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake endorsements; as well as, a clean driving record and perform duties of Monitor and/or Bus Driver on bus routes as needed. 
  1. Monitors arrival and departure times of drivers/buses; schedules substitute drivers and equipment, as necessary; inform supervisor of problems. 
  1. Monitors two-way radio base station to communicate with drivers. 
  1. Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above. 

 

 

 

LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS: 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles.  The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

 

To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
