Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a Bus Driver for our School District. In this full-time position, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school and related activities. Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus in accordance with all traffic laws and regulations.
- Transport students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and special events on time.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
- Maintain a clean and organized bus interior.
- Monitor student behavior while on the bus to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and any issues that may arise.
- Assist students with special needs as required, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit.
- Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on safety protocols and district policies.
- Adhere to all school district policies and procedures, including those related to student confidentiality and safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Previous experience driving a bus or working with children preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
- Physical ability to assist students as needed and perform required inspections.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings and late afternoons.
- Background check and drug/alcohol screening required prior to employment, on receival of paperwork candidate will be sent for drug and alcohol test. (Testing includes THC since it is not legal at the Federal Level.)
The candidate must hold a valid Michigan Driver’s License, with a CDL and BPS Endorsement, along with proper DOT certification, The district will pay for the applicant to get CDL and BPS Endorsement.
Prior bus driving experience desired, but training can be provided as part of hiring process.
Hourly pay rate and benefits commensurate with current NHTA - New Haven Transportation Association Collective Bargaining Agreement
