What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Transportation?
Summary:
Perform safe, efficient transportation of children to and from school. Substitute drivers must be individuals of good character, good health, and good personal appearance and must not be addicted to intoxicants or drugs.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
1. The driver is responsible for the safety of each student riding the bus and must maintain order and discipline among students on the bus, documenting and reporting discipline issues to the Bus Safety Coordinator.
2. The driver shall observe all state laws and regulations pertaining to the safe use of school buses.
3. The driver shall follow route patterns and schedules as reasonably as possible and keep accurate and complete records as required.
4. The driver shall be responsible for equipment entrusted to them, pre-trip inspections, proper reporting of damage or needed repairs.
5. The driver shall be prompt reporting for duty, give adequate notice and reason if not able to meet the schedule.
6. The driver shall take extra runs and field trips as requested by the transportation director.
7. The driver shall stay on the bus except in emergency situations or on business at schools.
8. The driver shall follow all reasonable directives from the transportation director or business manager.
Minimum Requirements
Education
-Eighth grade education
-Posses valid Commercial Driver's License
-Posses a valid MO School Bus Permit in accordance with Section 302.272 RSMo
-Successful completion of bus driver training and examination
Knowledge
-Know regulations governing safe operation of school buses.
-Know district policies concerning students riding the bus
-Know basic steps in building positive relationships with students and parents.
Skills
-Ability to safely and proficiently operate school buses of varying size and configuration.
-Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff members.
-Ability to accurately document and report records and bus issues as required or necessary.
Physical Requirements
-Be in good physical and mental health and pass an annual physical examination as required by the State of MO Dept of Revenue
-Be able to perform safety inspections on buses
-Be able to assist students as necessary in the course of duty.
