What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Aide (4) - Internal Only position at Transportation?
Reports To: Transportation Director & Special Education Director
Job Goal: Assist in providing safe transportation of students while maintaining a pleasant, professional, welcoming environment for students.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of safety rules, regulations and procedures.
- Current First Aid/CPR card.
- Ability to physically restraint out-of-control students.
- Knowledge and physical ability to remove students from any bus in emergency situations.
- Ability to document events occurring on the bus.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and deal with students, parents and staff in a warm and confident manner.
- Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to communicate effectively in giving instructions and following instructions.
- Ability to be fair and consistent when working with children.
- Complete a Washington State Patrol criminal record check.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Ensure that students follow rules and regulations on and around the bus.
- Follows plans and procedures for students who have a behavior plan, medical protocol or safety plan.
- Oversee student behavior around and on the bus, assuring that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
- Load and unload children, including but not limited to, those in a wheelchair and/or ambulatory student.
- Secure all students when necessary in restraints.
- Provide watchful vigilance over students at all times.
- Attend to passenger needs in route.
- Assist the driver with any reasonable requests.
- Awareness of placement and knowledge in usage of emergency equipment located inside the bus (reflectors, first aid kid, fire extinguisher, two-way radio).
- Enforce safety rules and regulations, report problems to the driver.
- Refrain students as needed to ensure that they do not injure themselves or others.
- Escort students as needed.
- Maintain updated knowledge on school policies and procedures that affect this position.
- Handle confidential information with care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
- Hours: Variable depending on route - no more than 40 hours per week combined with current job duty
