What are the responsibilities and job description for the MECHANIC position at Transportation Department?

Pay Grade 59 or 63
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:
Diagnoses and performs bus/vehicle repairs. Performs preventive maintenance procedures in accordance of state guidelines. Performs NC school bus inspections. Informs supervisor of parts to be needed. Available for after-hours emergencies calls, service vehicle, and tools provided. Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties. Serves as team player and role model for other employees. Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate or equivalent
Prefer three years of experience in automotive or diesel maintenance and repair or two years technical training in automotive or diesel field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform heavy lifting at times up to 100 pounds
Must have the ability to physically perform all repairs needed.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must possess a valid NC driver’s license
Must obtain a CDL class B w/endorsements, and North Carolina School Bus Inspection Certification
Must be able to pass background checks and drug testing.
