PRIMARY PURPOSE:  To assist the Bus Driver in maintaining a safe and efficient bus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Knowledge/Skills:

1. Must be 19 years of age
2. Must have ability to perform occasional physical
3. Demonstrate aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Assist bus driver in maintaining discipline of students on the bus. 

1. Sees that all students are seated while the bus is in motion. 

1. Assists students, including those in wheelchair, getting on and off the bus. 

1. Secures wheelchairs, seat belts, and any special seating on all children. 

1. Follows all safety precautions as prescribed by the Texas Education Agency.

1. Assist the bus driver in seeing that students follow the Bus Riders Rules and Regulations. 

1. Operates the lift or assists in lifting students in wheelchairs as required in daily assignment (25 lbs or more).

1. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job.

1. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel. 

1. Support and follow administrative and Board policy.

1. Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way. 

1. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons. 

1. Perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED

Bus lift, wheelchairs, special needs adaptive equipment, ramps.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Conditions/Environmental Factors

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.

Terms of Employment:

Work year established by the Board; salary according to current schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
