What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2026-27 SY Substitute Bus Driver position at Transportation Department?
JOB GOAL:
To provide safe, professional, timely and efficient bus transportation service to all students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s license to drive a school bus (P and S endorsements required).
Meet DOE physical exam and health requirements.
Complete all DOE, DOT, and local school system requirements.
Ability to pass an initial drug test as well as future random drug/alcohol tests.
Minimum age of 21.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prompt and regular attendance.
Interacts positively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
Maintains confidentiality and professionalism regarding student and school system affairs.
Obeys all traffic laws.
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
Reports undisciplined students to the school administration and takes appropriate disciplinary action.
Keeps assigned bus clean.
Keeps to assigned schedule (Am/Pm bus stop times and established bus stops).
Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects (DOE Pre-Trip requirement).
Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness in the Am or PM.
Discharges students only at “only” authorized bus stops.
Transports only authorized students or employees.
Reports “all bus accidents” and completes all required reports upon request.
Enforces student behavior code on the school bus and utilizes the proper student paperwork.
Knows and abides by all school system policies (Bus Drivers Handbook and BOE policies/procedures).
Reports to work in a timely and professional manner.
Assists other school bus drivers when help is needed.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
Terms of Employment:
180 days. Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule and school calendar. The length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by Liberty County School system.
