What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Operations Manager position at Transpo Bus Services?
Main Duties include:
- Assists the Operations Director in the development of transportation routes for district students and program participants. This may include students with varying abilities to district schools and non-district schools and routes for developmentally challenged adults.
- Assists in the assignment of drivers and vehicles to specific routes.
- Assists with collaborating with school districts, parents, and internal departments to ensure exceptional service delivery
- Assists with investigating service delays, incidents, and customer complaints; implement corrective actions
- Assists with managing, mentoring, and supporting drivers, monitors, and dispatch staff to ensure safe and timely service
- Assists drivers with on-road problems, relays vehicle breakdowns to mechanical staff, contacts police agencies for support at breakdown and accident locations.
- Assists in evaluating the performance of employees.
- Assists in driver check-in for AM and PM runs.
- Drives bus/monitors whenever necessary.
- Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have completed high school education or its equivalent; and
- must have three (3) years’ experience in the operation of a school bus or other relevant transportation.
- Minimum of 4 years of dispatching experience in school or commercial transportation
- Must possess at least a current and valid New York State Commercial Driver NYS CDL Class C with passenger and school bus endorsements or be able to obtain within 6 months of hiring.
- 19-A Examiner Certification, SBDI certifications is a plus!
- Must have working knowledge of NYS traffic laws and regulations for the operation of school buses.
- Knowledge of modern methods of bus routing, maintenance recordkeeping, payroll accounting, and related computer software programs.
- Must possess ability to understand and perform work from plans, rough sketches, schematic diagrams, written specifications and oral instructions.
- Must possess leadership skills and/or supervisory experience.
- Must have ability to get along well with others; must possess characteristics of dependability, tact, honesty, integrity.
- Must be in physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
