Position Summary
TTI is seeking Drafter/CAD Operator IVs to our team in Phoenix, AZ. These roles will prepare, revise, and maintain AutoCAD drawings of substation, transmission, and power system equipment, working closely with engineers and designers to ensure accuracy and compliance with WAPA standards.
This position is a full time, hourly role with a current rate of $30.15 per hour, plus a $5.09 per hour health and wellness benefit.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare AutoCAD drawings including multiple views, details, and assembly diagrams.
- Develop drawings that may involve complex design features requiring advanced visualization and drafting skills.
- Apply mathematical formulas to convert scales, calculate material quantities, and determine dimensions.
- Create drawings from sketches, as-built changes, and verbal information provided by engineers or designers.
- Follow established procedures for recurring assignments; seek guidance on complex or unfamiliar design problems.
- Interpret engineering layouts and diagrams to create and revise technical drawings; troubleshoot and correct errors in designs.
- Extract and compile engineering data from field notes, manuals, and reports, processing information using defined methods.
- Identify errors or inconsistencies in design data and assist in recommending improvements.
- Compile data related to design specifications and materials; recognize gaps in information and seek clarification.
- Travel to facilities as needed to conduct field research, review conditions, and update as-built or future design drawings.
- Supports additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by supervisors to meet mission and program needs, with flexibility to support evolving team requirements and opportunities for growth, expanded responsibilities, and training.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of experience with:
- Power distribution and protection equipment as found in electrical substations.
- Electrical drawings, diagrams, and their practical application.
- Drafting standards (ANSI, Military Specifications, or WAPA Standards).
- Limited knowledge of basic electricity, including DC circuits, AC theory, and power system equipment operation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and ability to produce professional drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize errors or inconsistencies in design data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical degree in drafting, design, or a related technical field.
- Experience supporting utility or federal power system projects.
- Familiarity with WAPA design standards and procedures.
Physical & Other Requirements
- Ability to travel occasionally to field sites for research and verification of as-built conditions.
- Ability to work in an office and substation environment as required.
