POSITION TITLE: Employment Specialist
SUPERVISOR: Recovery Housing Director
Qualifications:
Education and experience are equivalent to an undergraduate degree in mental health, social services, or business. Experience working with co-occurring substance use and mental health diagnosis, experience providing employment services, and knowledge of the work world are preferred. The ability to work independently and as an effective team player is essential.
Summary:
This position will work with clients preparing to transition out of residential treatment (RTC) back into the community by facilitating employment groups and meeting with individuals to assess for employment strengths and needs; assist with applying for legal documents required for employment, create resumes and assist clients in applying for and setting up interviews prior to discharging from treatment.
Responsibilities:
Engage clients and establish trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings with other workers.
Assist clients in obtaining information about their benefits (e.g., SSI, Medicaid, etc.) and how they will be affected by employment for clients to make good decisions about employment opportunities.
Assesses clients' skills on an ongoing basis utilizing background information and work experience.
Develops an individual employment (and/or education) plan with clients.
Conducts job development and job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the unique interests of the people on his/her caseload.
Conducts employment focused groups and individuals with clients.
Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings with support staff.
Participates in weekly meetings with treatment teams and communicates individually with team members between meetings to coordinate and integrate employment services into treatment.
