Medical Assistant — Psychiatric Practice (4-Day Work Week)

About Us
Transitions Behavioral Health is a growing outpatient psychiatric practice serving the Rio Grande Valley. We treat adults and adolescents for depression, anxiety, ADHD, perimenopausal mental health, and complex psychiatric conditions. Our team — PMHNPs, an LCSW, and dedicated support staff — is small, mission-driven, and expanding. If you want to be a number, this isn't it. If you want to matter, keep reading.
The Role
You are the operational backbone of every provider visit. From the moment a patient checks in to the moment they leave, you make the clinical day run. You'll room patients, document in athenahealth, manage refill workflows, coordinate labs and prior authorizations, and support a team of providers who expect excellence — and give it back.
What You'll Do
- Room patients, take and document vitals in athenahealth
- Verify medications, allergies, pharmacies, and pertinent history at every visit
- Administer and score PHQ-9, GAD-7, Vanderbilt, and other rating scales
- Process refill requests and triage provider messages through OH MD
- Coordinate labs, prior authorizations, and outside referrals
- Support front desk during peak check-in and check-out windows
- Maintain clean, stocked, HIPAA-compliant clinical spaces
- Protect our 95% same-day charting standard — non-negotiable
What We Need
- Certification: CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent (or eligible to test within 60 days)
- Experience: 1 year in a medical office; behavioral health experience preferred
- EHR: Proficient in at least one EHR; athenahealth experience a major plus
- Language: Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred (RGV patient population)
- BLS certified or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Professional, warm, discreet — psychiatric patients require a higher standard of confidentiality and compassion
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable — we run a tight schedule and patients depend on it
