What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP of Finance position at Transition Staffing Group?
We are representing a publicly-traded FinTech company in La Jolla in their search for a VP of Finance. The position is open due to tremendous growth and acquisition activity. This is a high visibility role reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, with strong long-term upward mobility potential. It’s a great opportunity for someone to help shape and modernize the accounting infrastructure of a fast-growing fintech bank, without needing the strong technical accounting or SEC reporting background.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including external audits and reviews
- Ensure accuracy of financial statements, SEC filings, and regulatory reporting
- Identify and implement process improvements focused on automation, scalability, and operational efficiency
- Lead SOX compliance efforts and maintain a strong internal control environment
- Partner with auditors and leadership on regulatory reporting and risk assessment matters
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff and leadership team
- Support systems implementations, cloud initiatives, and process engineering projects
- Analyze reporting data and help evaluate accounting and regulatory risk areas
- Collaborate cross-functionally with accounting, finance, and operational teams during growth and integration initiatives
- Prepare reporting and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
- 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience within banking or financial services
- Strong regulatory reporting experience required
- Experience managing teams, including manager-level direct reports
- Public company and SEC reporting experience preferred
- Agile, forward-thinking leader with strong communication skills and interest in automation/process improvement
