DEPARTMENT: Operations REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Operations Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
Transaction Packing Inc. is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Crating Builder / Wood Fabrication Technician to join our Operations team. In this role, you will fabricate, assemble, and repair wood products including crates, skids, and pallets used for industrial packaging and shipping. You will work from written and verbal instructions using a variety of hand tools and power equipment to ensure high-quality, safe, and durable finished products.
This is a hands-on production role in a fast-paced shop environment where safety, accuracy, and efficiency are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and assemble wood crates, skids, and pallets according to company standards and specifications
- Use carpentry tools and power equipment to cut, fasten, and assemble wood components
- Apply banding and strapping materials to secure finished crates safely and correctly
- Operate tools such as nail guns, staple guns, drills, and air compressors
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements and job safety analysis (JSA) guidelines
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Properly handle, store, and conserve materials to minimize waste
- Perform basic equipment care and report maintenance needs as required
- May assist with rigger or spotter duties for pipe handling or oversized yard projects
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of crating, carpentry, construction, or wood fabrication experience preferred
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written/verbal instructions
- Basic understanding of workplace safety practices in an industrial environment
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 lbs regularly (up to 75 lbs occasionally)
- Reliable attendance and strong punctuality
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have)
- Prior experience building industrial crates, pallets, or shipping materials
Physical Requirements
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Frequent use of hands, tools, and equipment
- Occasional bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and industrial materials
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role is performed in an industrial shop environment with exposure to high noise levels, moving mechanical equipment, dust, odors, and varying temperatures. Safety compliance and proper PPE usage are required at all times.
