Job description


TrainCareConsult Inc. is seeking compassionate, dependable, and skilled professionals to join our growing team of behavioral support staff. We provide in-home and community-based services to individuals with developmental and behavioral support needs, including cases that may involve high-intensity behaviors and complex presentations requiring sound judgment, professionalism, and a strong working knowledge of behavioral support practices.

This position is intended for individuals who can remain calm under pressure, exercise professional judgment in difficult situations, and provide safe, respectful, and person-centered support. Staff in this role are expected to assist clients through structured intervention, behavioral support, supervision, and implementation of individualized service strategies in collaboration with the broader support team.

We are currently hiring for the following roles:

  • Direct Support Professionals (DSP)
  • Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT)
  • Behavior Interventionists (BI)
  • Behavior Technicians (BT)

Position Summary

The Behavioral Respite Care Provider / Direct Support Staff is responsible for providing direct support services to clients in their homes and community settings. This role includes supporting individuals who may present with significant behavioral challenges and require consistent structure, behavioral intervention, de-escalation support, and implementation of individualized plans.

Many of our cases require a high degree of attentiveness, emotional resilience, and professionalism. Staff must be prepared to navigate complex situations appropriately while maintaining the safety, dignity, and well-being of the individuals served.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide direct care, supervision, and behavioral support in home and community-based settings
  • Implement individualized support strategies, IPP objectives, and behavior support plans as directed
  • Utilize approved de-escalation, redirection, and intervention techniques in response to challenging behaviors
  • Support clients with daily living activities, routines, supervision, and community integration as appropriate
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and professional documentation, including session notes, incident reports, and related records
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, family members, and other professionals involved in care
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, training requirements, and regulatory expectations
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and appropriate conduct in all service settings
  • Assist with transportation of clients when required and appropriate to service needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned based on client needs, program needs, or operational requirements

Position Expectations

This position requires staff to work with individuals who may experience severe behavioral episodes, emotional dysregulation, aggression, property disruption, elopement risk, and other behaviors that require a high level of support and intervention. Staff must demonstrate maturity, professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to respond safely and effectively in dynamic situations.

Applicants should understand that:

  • Some cases are intensive and require a high level of awareness, consistency, and responsiveness
  • Certain assignments may involve high-profile or sensitive situations requiring discretion and professionalism at all times
  • Staff must be willing to accept direction, participate in ongoing training, and adapt to the individualized needs of each client

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing direct support or specialized services to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or significant behavioral needs, preferred
  • Experience supporting individuals with intense behavioral episodes, including de-escalation and crisis response strategies, strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Individual Program Plans (IPPs), behavior support plans, and related service goals preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly and professionally
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to complete required documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients using their preferred communication methods when applicable

Certifications and Training Requirements

  • DSP Year 1 upon hire, or willingness to complete if not already certified
  • DSP Year II within six (6) months of hire, if applicable
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, including abdominal thrust technique, through approved hands-on training
  • CPI certification prior to working independently with clients or within 60 days of hire
  • Willingness to complete all required agency and client-specific trainings, including those related to Title 17, Title 22, Regional Center requirements, behavioral supports, and safety procedures

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain fingerprint clearance through DOJ/FBI prior to working with clients
  • Valid Driver’s License, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client homes and service locations as assigned
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow Universal Precautions, handwashing procedures, and infection control standards
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, walk, move, turn, and stand for extended periods, and to assist clients with daily support needs
  • Ability to perform light housekeeping, meal preparation, and other support-related tasks connected to client care

Work Environment

This is a hands-on position performed in client homes and community-based settings. Staff may work independently or alongside other providers depending on the needs of the assignment. The work environment may at times include exposure to highly stressful situations, behavioral escalation, and individuals who may present with aggressive behaviors. Staff must be willing and able to work in this type of environment and respond in a professional, safe, and appropriate manner consistent with agency policies, training, and client support plans.

Because service settings vary from case to case, staff must be adaptable, observant, and prepared to work in environments that require consistent attention to safety, professionalism, and person-centered care.
