What are the responsibilities and job description for the Digital Marketing Manager position at TrailerFunnel?
ABOUT US
We are a marketing technology and managed services company built for dealerships. We help trailer, powersports, RV, boat, and equipment dealers sell more inventory through high-performance digital marketing; including paid advertising, SEO, websites, and specialized software tools. Our clients are business owners across the country who depend on us to drive real leads that turn into sales on their lots.
As a small, fast-moving team based in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, we build things, ship things, and take ownership of results. If you thrive in a hands-on environment where your work directly impacts a growing business, this is the role for you.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE ROLE
We're hiring a Senior Digital Marketing Manager to own paid media performance across our dealership client base. You'll build and optimize Google and Meta ad campaigns, lead client relationships, and manage a growing team of marketing specialists.
This role is equal parts strategist, executor, and leader. On any given day you might be restructuring a Performance Max campaign in the morning, presenting to a dealer over Zoom at lunch, and coaching a team member through an optimization problem in the afternoon.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Run Paid Media Campaigns
- Build, manage, and optimize Google Ads campaigns across Search, Performance Max, Display, YouTube, and Demand Gen for dealership clients.
- Build, manage, and optimize Meta Ads campaigns (Facebook and Instagram) across Traffic, Lead Gen, Catalog Sales, and Retargeting objectives.
- Manage client ad budgets ranging from $1,000/mo to $10,000 /mo, ensuring efficient spend allocation and lead volume targets.
- Implement and maintain conversion tracking (Google Tag Manager, GA4, Meta Pixel/CAPI) across client websites.
- Develop inventory-specific ad strategies including dynamic product feeds, vehicle listing ads, and catalog-driven campaigns.
Own Client Relationships
- Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of 15–25 dealership clients.
- Lead recurring performance review and strategy calls, presenting insights in clear, dealer-friendly language that connects to their business goals.
- Handle inbound client requests and escalations with professionalism and urgency.
- Participate in occasional sales-focused calls for prospective clients, articulating our paid media capabilities and case studies.
Lead and Grow a Team
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of digital marketing specialists and coordinators.
- Establish and enforce SOPs, quality benchmarks, and campaign launch checklists.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and professional development planning.
- Identify hiring needs as the client base grows and participate in recruiting and onboarding.
Report and Analyze
- Build and deliver monthly client-facing performance reports that connect ad spend to tangible business outcomes.
- Monitor KPIs (CPC, CTR, CPL, ROAS, conversion rate) and proactively surface underperformance or opportunities.
- Leverage Google Analytics 4, Looker Studio, SEMrush, and internal dashboards to drive strategy.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
- 3 years of hands-on experience managing Google Ads campaigns (Search, PMax, Display, YouTube). A strong performance track record matters more than certifications.
- 2 years of hands-on experience managing Meta Ads campaigns across multiple objectives and ad formats.
- Experience managing $30,000 /mo in monthly ad spend across multiple client accounts simultaneously.
- Background in an agency, managed services, or multi-client environment where you owned the full campaign lifecycle.
- Strong working knowledge of Google Tag Manager, GA4 event tracking, and conversion attribution.
- Proven ability to lead client-facing calls with confidence and clarity. Performance reviews, strategy sessions, and the occasional difficult conversation.
- At least 1 year of experience managing or mentoring direct reports or a small team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication. You'll write ad copy, client emails, internal docs, and present on camera regularly.
- Willingness to work in-office in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. This is not a remote position.
Nice to Have
- Experience in the dealership, automotive, powersports, marine, RV, or equipment industry.
- Familiarity with inventory feed management, vehicle listing ads, and dynamic creative optimization.
- Proficiency in SEMrush, Ahrefs, or similar competitive intelligence tools.
- Experience with Google Looker Studio or other BI/reporting platforms.
- Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals as a complement to paid media.
- Google Ads or Meta Blueprint certifications.

WHO YOU ARE
- You treat client accounts like your own business and take personal pride in the results you deliver.
- You understand that our clients are business owners, not marketers—and you meet them where they are.
- You stay current on platform changes, betas, and industry trends without being asked.
- You can handle a frustrated client call at 9 AM and a strategic planning session at 2 PM without missing a beat.
- You're energized by building systems, processes, and teams, not just running campaigns.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Base Salary: $64,000 – $78,000 annually, commensurate with experience
- Performance Bonus: Quarterly bonus tied to client retention, portfolio growth, and team KPIs
- PTO: Competitive paid time off
