Job Title: Trailer Shop Mechanic (Service & Sales)Position Overview
Are you a jack-of-all-trades who knows trailers inside and out? Can you lay down a solid weld, trace an electrical short, swap out a bent axle, and chat up a customer all in the same afternoon? If so, we want you on our team.
We are seeking a versatile, motivated Trailer Shop Mechanic to handle everything from routine maintenance and heavy-duty repairs to parts and trailer sales. This is a dynamic role perfect for someone who enjoys variety—you won’t just be stuck under a chassis all day; you’ll also be the face of our shop, helping customers find exactly what they need.
Key Responsibilities
- Axle & Brake Service: Diagnose, repair, and completely replace trailer axles, hubs, bearings, seals, and electric/hydraulic braking systems to ensure everything rolls and stops safely.
- Diagnose & Repair: Perform general maintenance and structural repairs on a variety of trailer types (utility, cargo, dump, equipment, etc.).
- Electrical & Wiring: Troubleshoot, repair, and completely rewire trailer lighting and braking systems.
- Welding & Fabrication: Handle structural repairs, modifications, and custom fabrication using welding equipment.
- Sales & Customer Service: Assist walk-in and phone customers with purchasing trailer parts, accessories, and complete trailer setups.
- Inventory & Shop Upkeep: Keep track of parts inventory, maintain a clean and safe workspace, and assist with receiving shipments.
What We’re Looking For
- Undercarriage Expertise: Deep knowledge of suspension systems. You should be completely comfortable diagnosing worn brakes, repacking bearings, and replacing entire axle assemblies.
- General Trailer Knowledge: You know your way around leaf springs, couplers, and frames. You can look at a trailer and understand how to fix it safely.
- Wiring Wizards: Strong troubleshooting skills for standard 4-way, 7-way, and custom trailer electrical systems.
- Welding Skills: Proven ability to perform clean, structurally sound welds (MIG/Stick).
- People Skills: Since this role includes sales, you must be approachable and comfortable talking to customers and closing deals.
- Reliability: A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Job Details & Compensation
- Hours: 20 to 40 hours per week. We offer flexibility for the right candidate—whether you are looking for part-time hours or a full-time schedule.
