What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wealth Management Associate position at TradeWinds Wealth Management?
About TradeWinds
TradeWinds Wealth Management is a retirement planning and financial advisory firm serving clients in the Portland area, with a particular focus on individuals navigating federal benefits. We help people understand not just the numbers, but the life decisions behind them.
We ask the right questions. We explain the "why." And we work hard to make complex retirement planning feel manageable. The team is small, intentional, and genuinely invested in the outcomes we help clients achieve.
The Opportunity
This role is designed for someone early in their career who is ready to grow, both as a support professional and as an advisor. You will start by working closely with our advisors and getting deep into the planning work, and you will have meaningful face time with prospects within your first 12 months.
We will train you on federal benefits, a specialized area that sets our practice apart, and help you build toward a client-facing role on our team. Compensation starts with a generous base salary and includes a defined path for bonuses, salary increases, and promotions as you begin bringing on clients of your own.
What You'll Do
- Support advisors with client financial data gathering, retirement projections, and investment proposals
- Work in eMoney and MoneyGuidePro to assist with financial plan preparation and data entry
- Prepare materials for client meetings, portfolio reviews, and prospect presentations
- Assist with plan implementation, follow-up, and ongoing client record maintenance
- Respond to client inquiries with professionalism and care
- Learn and apply knowledge of federal benefits including FERS, CSRS, and TSP through structured training
- Contribute to workshops, educational content, and broader client communication efforts
- Take on increasing responsibility over time, including direct client and prospect interactions
What We're Looking For
- 2 to 3 years of experience in financial services, planning support, or a related role
- Comfort working with financial data and planning software, with strong attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field (preferred)
- Series 65 or 66 license preferred, or willingness to obtain
- CFP® progress or interest is a genuine plus
Why This Role?
You haven't had the chance to build your own book yet, and that's fine. This role is about developing the skills, relationships, and specialized knowledge that make a great advisor. Federal benefits is a niche that most advisors don't know well, and we'll give you a real foundation in it.
If you want to grow into a meaningful client-facing role at a firm that does purposeful work for people who've spent careers in public service, we'd like to meet you.
