Trades Exchange is hiring an experienced Lead Chiller / Central Plant Technician for a new commercial facilities account supporting Kennesaw State University across the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses.

This is a high-priority technical position for a true commercial/industrial chiller technician with meaningful hands-on experience servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining large-tonnage chillers and central plant equipment.

This is not a general HVAC service position. We are looking for someone with strong chiller knowledge who can operate at a lead level and become the technical point person for the account.

Equipment You May Work With

The campus chiller plants include equipment from multiple major manufacturers, including:

  • Trane centrifugal, screw, and scroll chillers
  • Daikin Applied / McQuay magnetic-bearing centrifugal chillers
  • York centrifugal, magnetic-bearing, scroll, and air-cooled chillers
  • Carrier air-cooled equipment
  • Large packaged/process chillers
  • EVAPCO cooling towers
  • Marley / SPX cooling towers
  • BAC cooling towers
  • Pumps and hydronic systems
  • BAS-integrated central plant equipment

Equipment includes large-tonnage systems ranging from approximately 250 tons to 600 tons.

Ideal Experience

Qualified candidates should have experience with several of the following:

  • Large commercial or industrial chiller systems
  • Centrifugal chillers
  • Magnetic-bearing centrifugal chillers
  • Water-cooled screw or helical rotary chillers
  • Air-cooled screw or scroll chillers
  • Cooling towers
  • Pumps and hydronic systems
  • Central plant operations
  • BAS / building automation systems
  • Commercial HVAC troubleshooting and repair
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance

Experience with Trane, Daikin Applied/McQuay, and/or York equipment is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification strongly preferred
  • Significant hands-on commercial/industrial chiller experience
  • Strong centrifugal chiller experience preferred
  • Ability to independently diagnose and troubleshoot complex HVAC/chiller systems
  • Ability to document equipment conditions and completed work
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a facilities team
  • Georgia HVAC license is a plus but not necessarily required
  • OEM/factory training or certifications are highly valued

Experience in higher education, healthcare, industrial facilities, hospitals, data centers, or other large institutional central plants is a strong plus.

Schedule

Typical scheduled hours are:

Monday–Friday | Approximately 7:00 AM–4:00 PM

Some after-hours and weekend work may be required around campus operations, special events, equipment needs, or emergency service.

The account includes a 24/7/365 emergency response requirement, supported by the broader service team.

Compensation has flexibility depending on experience, OEM knowledge, certifications, and technical depth.
