Core responsibilities
- Read mechanical drawings, CAD prints and physical samples to understand fit‑up requirements
- Fit, tack and finish‑weld steel and aluminum components (primarily MIG/GMAW; occasional TIG/GTAW)
- Cut, notch, drill or tap raw profiles as needed; install bolts, latches, hinges and alignment dowels
- Verify critical dimensions (±0.5 mm typical) with calipers, squares and jigs; document deviations
- Proactively collaborate with the design team to shorten build cycles: suggest CAD revisions that reduce weld time or distortion, and design/build simple jigs or fixtures in‑house (e.g., tab‑and‑slot plates, adjustable clamp bars) that make repeat assemblies faster and more accurate
- Maintain a clean, safe work cell; comply with OSHA and AWS D1.1/D1.2 practices
- 3 years professional welding/fabrication experience
- Proficient in MIG and basic TIG on mild steel and 6061‑T6 aluminum
- Able to read GD&T symbols, welding symbols and bills of material
- Comfortable operating band saw, cold saw, angle grinder and drill press
- Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Current AWS D1.1 structural‑steel or D1.2 aluminum certification
- Experience with jigs/fixtures for small‑batch production
- Fork‑lift certification, overhead‑crane or rigging experience
- Familiarity with lean 5S practices
