Position Summary
The Controller will be a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. We are looking for someone with strong financial acumen, experience assessing and designing reporting processes, comfort working within a rapidly evolving startup environment, and a team player mentality.
This job will require 2-3 days per week in office at 285 Newbury Street in Boston.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations to ensure accurate recording and classification of transactions in NetSuite, which will involve frequent collaboration with e-commerce, retail, wholesale, logistics and inventory planning teams.
- Own the month-end close process: assess current state, reconcile data sources, evaluate risks, design mitigating controls and ensure the maintenance of proper documentation.
- Perform analytical reviews by channel at month-end, reporting on KPIs and proactively identify and investigate anomalies. Support CFO in controlling spend vs. budgets, liaising with department heads on actualized monthly results and re-forecasting as necessary based on observed trends, changes to business plans, etc.
- Serve as company point person on year-end audit, corporate and sales tax compliance, 409A valuations and annual lender diligence procedures
- Support CFO in cash flow management, principally in monitoring A/R collections and A/P processing
Skills & Qualifications
- 5-10 years of public and/or private accounting experience
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and controls to address completeness, accuracy, existence/occurrence, valuation and cutoff risks
- Top proficiency in Microsoft Excel; NetSuite experience required; experience with entity consolidation and FX strongly preferred. Shopify experience preferred.
- Experience with e-commerce or retail, particularly inventory-based businesses with landed cost calculations
- Ability to interpret, synthesize, communicate, and present complex financial information, despite often imperfect data sources
- Self-starter who can triage, troubleshoot, redirect and ultimately architect solutions and who thrives in a fast-paced, team sport environment
