Lumber Planer Mill Operator

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure production targets and quality standards are met or exceeded.
• Monitor machine operations (planer, trim line, stackers, etc.) and address issues proactively.
• Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols; promote a safety-first culture.
• Conduct shift meetings, assign tasks, and manage workforce scheduling.
• Train and mentor team members to enhance performance and skill development.
• Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate with maintenance as needed.
• Maintain accurate production records, downtime reports, and shift logs.
• Collaborate with other supervisors, quality control, and management to improve operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in forestry or operations management is an asset).
• 3 years of supervisory experience in a lumber or planermill environment.
• Strong working knowledge of lumber grades, planer operation, and wood processing equipment.
• Solid leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in using computer systems for production tracking and reporting (experience with mill-specific software is a plus).
• Willingness to work rotating or fixed shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.

Work Environment:

• Industrial setting with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
• Requires standing for long periods and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
• Use of PPE (personal protective equipment) is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
