Instrument & Control Technician II
Location: Olive Township, MI (Fully Onsite at J.H. Campbell Plant) - (Per diem offered non local)
Duration: Until Apr 2027 (with a possibility of extension)
Manager: Joseph Furlick — Environment & Technical Services Group
Schedule:
- Weekend on-call rotation
- Support during unit outages throughout the year
- Driving onsite required → Valid Driver’s License mandatory
Per Diem / Relocation Policy:
- Per diem is now approved for non-local candidates willing to relocate.
- No corporate relocation package; candidate must move on their own but can receive per diem.
Plant Info:
- Role sits in the Technical Group – Instrumentation & Controls
- Work involves chemistry systems & monitoring systems
- Site includes 3 coal-fired generating units
- DOE has issued continuing executive orders requiring the plant to remain open (renewed every 90 days).
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain all I&C documentation and records.
- Perform testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and programming of computer-based control systems.
- Work hands-on with PLC-based control systems (programming, fault diagnosis).
- Work with pneumatic systems (control valves, actuators, instrumentation).
- Recommend equipment upgrades when aging or failing.
- Interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
- Maintain & troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment tied to power generation assets.
Required / Preferred Skills
Required
- Experience in an industrial process environment (power plants, paper mills, refineries, chemical plants, steel mills).
- Testing/troubleshooting computer-based control systems.
- PLC programming / diagnostics experience.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation, sensors, transmitters, control loops, pneumatic controls.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license (onsite driving required).
Preferred
- Prior power generation experience.
- Experience in paper mills (highly transferable).
- AA/AS or BS degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Computer Engineering, or similar discipline.
- Experience with plant electrical systems.
