Industrial Engineer III
Contract Duration: Until May 15, 2026 with high possibility of extension
Location: Multiple Michigan locations with flexible office-based or hybrid work options. Preferred location: Jackson, MI (49201); other service centers may be considered by the hiring manager.
Position Overview
The Senior Industrial Engineer (Sr IE) will play a crucial role in advancing Operational Excellence within CMS Energy by leveraging a broad and deep understanding of industrial engineering principles. This individual will lead initiatives aimed at refining processes and reducing waste, driving efficiencies that produce tangible results. The Sr IE will apply advanced techniques to address issues relating to safety, compliance, quality, delivery, and morale, ensuring continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Excellence: Lead initiatives to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and deliver measurable benefits across various operations.
- Process Refinement: Utilize extensive knowledge of industrial engineering principles to analyze and refine operational processes, technologies, and standard work.
- Data Analysis and Root Cause Analysis: Conduct time and motion studies, stratify losses, and perform root cause analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with all levels of employees and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication, both formal and informal, in promoting initiatives and gathering feedback.
- Leadership and Team Development: Motivate, inspire, and lead teams to achieve goals, fostering collaboration and interdependence.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify, implement, and monitor new processes, technologies, policies, and best practices to ensure quality, compliance, safety, and timeliness.

Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field is required.
- Experience: Proven experience in industrial engineering roles, ideally in operational excellence, process improvement, and team leadership.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office platforms; strong mathematical and quantitative analysis skills.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving: Strong ability to research, assess data, understand trends, and build clear understandings of business performance.
- Leadership & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to lead teams, inspire change, and build lasting relationships across diverse groups. High emotional intelligence and excellent negotiation skills are essential.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact at all organizational levels.
