- Track and analyze project costs, including labor, materials and subcontractor expenses
- Maintain job cost ledgers and ensure accurate allocation of expenses to specific projects
- Assist in preparing project cost reports, variance analyses, and budget comparisons
- Monitor committed costs vs. actual costs and identify discrepancies
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to project accounting
- Work with project managers to review budgets and cost forecasts
- Input and update job cost data in accounting or ERP systems
- Ensure all financial transactions are coded correctly to jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts
- Maintain organized digital records of financial documents
- Verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Ensure compliance with company policies and construction accounting standards
- Assist with audits by providing accurate financial data and documentation
- Generate routine and ad hoc financial reports for management
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction
- Strong understanding of job costing and construction accounting practices
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300/100 or similar ERP systems)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong numerical and analytical abilities
- Ability to manage large volumes of data efficiently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects running simultaneously
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines in a project-driven environment
- Effective communication with project managers and finance teams
- Experience working for a construction company or contractor
