The Process Chemist at TPC Group plays a key role by partnering with production and operation teams to ensure unit performance and product quality standards are met and provide technical and analytical expertise for assigned process units. Responsibilities Include

  • Ensures safe and reliable operation in the lab, driving high safety standards
  • Actively participate in site safety programs, Technical Center Chemical Hygiene Program and lead safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate on a cross-functional process team to monitor the production process, troubleshoot production issues, and identify and champion process improvements.
  • Partners with production engineers to monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot unit performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to manufacturing and production teams for chemical processes.
  • Champion process chemistry management program – Manage process chemistry vendor to ensure adequate chemical dosage, monitor process chemistry residuals and evaluate key performance indicators from regular sampling to determine process chemistry program effectiveness and unit optimization.
  • Drive improvements in process chemistry and analytical tools/techniques.
  • Develop and maintain unit process chemistry expertise, continuously build a body of technical knowledge around unit operation and processes to be the technical subject matter expert.
  • Serve as a liaison between operations and R&D to facilitate plant trials and champion process improvements.
  • Provide analytical support for the HNO QC Lab and Plant including analytical data review/troubleshooting, new method development, and management of outsourced samples.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to conduct and document statistical evaluation of proposed specifications for raw materials and finished products while also managing specification changes for assigned process units.
  • Conduct quality assessment of new raw materials, new chemicals, and process unit changes.
  • Lead and support functions of the HNO quality management system (QMS) including SQC/Calibration program, PM and laboratory maintenance program, sample schedules, and site computer applications and resources (LIMS, OpenLab, NWA, etc.)
  • Plan and document projects and deliver results according to established timelines.
  • Perform specialized sampling, non-routine analyses, and assessment of process unit performance as required by the business.
  • Develop operating procedures and provide training for testing equipment and new methods of test.
  • Facilitates and participates in Root Cause Investigations.
  • Work with customers and outside labs to resolve analytical discrepancies.
  • Work in the field with operations and maintenance during turnarounds.
  • Spend time in the field working with operations.
  • Communicate and document results in concise format.

Role Specific Knowledge

  • Experience in Quality Assurance best practices
  • ISO 9000 experience (desired but not mandatory)
  • Six Sigma knowledge (desired but not mandatory)
  • Experience with method development and troubleshooting gas chromatography, ion chromatography, total organic carbon analysis, Karl Fisher, and titrations.
  • Communication and leadership skills with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, communicate and lead effectively in cross-functional teams

Education, Licensure, And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in process chemistry and/or analytical laboratories
