Pre-cast Concrete Quality Control Manager
General Description:
This position is accountable for all aspects of Pre-Cast Quality Management. This includes responsibility for inspection, testing services, studying, and resolving technical issues, management related issues, and the communication of quality related matters. DOT personnel, State, County, and Municipal personnel. Develop and maintain relationships with material suppliers. The Quality Control Manager will assist the company in elevating the customers’ perception and general quality of our mix designs, achieving the elimination of lost loads, the generation of backup data necessary for mix optimization and overseeing the inspection process of DOT jobs.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions):
- Follow quality control procedures as outlined by Precast and the standards of the Nation Precast Association Quality Control Manual.
- Responsible for the management of the Quality Control Laboratory which includes the supervision of lab technicians, and training of lab technician trainees, requisitioning necessary supplies and equipment.
- Maintain lab equipment in calibration.
- Prepare, obtain approval, issue, and implement company quality control (assurance) program manual in compliance with contracts and company requirements.
- The job requires an extensive knowledge of concrete products and respective test standards and the ability to perform concrete products testing.
- Inspect and certify finished pre-cast concrete products for conformance to shop drawings.
- Pre-Cast Concrete: Plasticity index, Durability, Specific Gravity, Slump tests, Retained Strength.
- Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.
- Coordinate quality control objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
- Responsible for all Material Certification submittals for the Company and outside customers as requested.
- Responsible for liaison between the Company and outside testing labs. State Departments of Transportation, appropriate County and/or Cities, and independent labs are included.
- Direct technicians engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
- Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in solving work problems. Ensure adequate corrective measures are implemented in cases of noncompliance.
- Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring work activities, such as preparation of records, progress reports, etc. to inform management of status or work activities.
- Responsible for keeping accurate records of test results and correspondence.
- Required to have, or take, appropriate safety course(s). Duties include working with testing gauges with sealed nuclear source(s). Requires wearing radiation badge.
- Plan, promote and organize training activities related to product quality and reliability.
- Reliable attendance is essential in performing this role.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) plus years of experience in pre-cast concrete. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ACI Field Grade I Certification
- ACI Strength Testing Level I Certification
- Report to work at the designated start time. Reliable attendance is essential.
- Available to work overtime, nights and weekends when necessary.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Test product for the required specifications depending upon each job.
- Ability to use all tools required to complete testing of product.
Work Environment
- Noise: sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction or possible injury to sense of hearing.
- Requires being exposed to extremes of hot, cold, and wet weather.
- Fumes: vaporous emissions, usually odorous, thrown off as the result of combustion or chemical reaction.
- Gases: carbon monoxide and ozone.
- Dust: airborne particles of any kind such as dust.
- Protection: required to wear hard hat, safety glasses (prescription or non-prescription) with side shields, safety vest, gloves, steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection
Schedule:
7:30AM - 3:30PM subject to change at any moment depending on project or season.
Pay:
$70,000 - $85,000 annually (salary) *Must have PCI Level III, ACI Field Grade Level I and ACI Strength Test Technician Level 1 (Optional ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I) – Need qty. 1 Pay rate depends on qualifications already in place and relevant experience level
