Your project

The increasing share of renewables in the energy mix creates challenges for the European electrical grid in terms of supply & demand balancing. Electric vehicles -with their battery storage capacity- can be a valuable resource to help stabilising our grids. To fully leverage this potential, bi-directional power exchange with the grid (V2G) can be a game changer. Our team is currently developing a V2G solution based on a bi-directional on-board charger with a dedicated charging wallbox. You would be supporting the development team in system evaluation w.r.t. grid code compliance on our HILS testbench.

This entails -among others- following activities:

• Acquaint yourself with EU grid code (test) requirements for generators to get the required technical background. (We have the necessary regulations & standards documentation available if needed.)

• Define electrical test procedures to verify gird code compliance of system components (wallbox & On-Boad Charger) on our HILS test set-up. This includes:
  • Definition of high-level test requirements as stipulated in applicable EN & national test standards.
  • Definition of practical test procedures & sequences;
    • Experimental system set-up definition.
    • Measurement equipment set-up.
    • AC grid simulator & DC source settings & control.
    • Prototype component configuration & control set-up.

(dSpace ECU emulator system.)

    • Assure operator safety & prototype component integrity.

• • Support technician team during test execution on HILS bench (hands-on), providing 1st line troubleshooting support.
  • Process measurement data and report test result.
  • Share & discuss findings with design engineers and define next action if needed.  

Your Profile

Your profile

• You are fluent in English (TME’s business language) - Any other EU language would be a plus

• Master in Electric or (Power) Electronic engineering with a strong affinity for the subject.
• Experience with EU grid codes and AC V2G eco system would a plus.
• Experience with a rapid prototyping environment (i.e. dSpace, Simulink) and grid level electrical testing would be another bonus.
• Most importantly you are a motivated team player, ready to actively collaborate in our young and dynamic team

Due to business requirement, not all performed projects can be reflected in the internship report. This issue needs to be discussed with candidate/school in advance.

It is mandatory that applicants are students for the entire period of the internship.
