POSITION SUMMARY
The Recreation Coordinator-Aquatics is responsible for the day-to-day operations of aquatic programs, water exercise and swim lesson instruction along with training all water exercise and swim lesson instructors. This position will be expected to perform all lifeguard and aquatic instructor job functions as needed. The incumbent is a team player who demonstrates excellent organizational, verbal, interpersonal, customer service, decision-making, problem solving and leadership skills. The Recreation Coordinator- Aquatics works under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor.
The Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park provides our members and guests with a comprehensive range of recreation services including fitness programs, swim programs (indoor and outdoor), summer camps, youth programs, older adult programs, and more.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, coordinates, implements, and teaches aquatics programs, water exercise, swim lesson, and lifeguarding instruction within the aquatics department.
- Maintains and monitors program rosters and inventory of all aquatics programs, water exercise, and swim lesson instruction.
- Maintains and monitors inventory of aquatics program supplies.
- Create revenue enhancement strategies through recreational programming to assist the quality of life for the community.
- Works cooperatively with visitors and Township employees of all age levels and socio-economic backgrounds. Resolve complaints, disciplinary problems, and violations of facility rules.
- Perform lifeguard and aquatic instructor job functions as needed.
- Perform Leadership Team responsibilities for the facility.
- Assist in leading monthly lifeguard in-service trainings.
- Plan and lead bi-monthly swim lesson and water exercise instructor meetings.
- Maintain a neat, clean, pleasant and safe environment in Aquatic facilities.
- Other duties may be assigned by Aquatics Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; problem solving skills, as the employee must be able to resolve discrepancies and answer questions from residents and employees.
- Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously; ability to speak fluent and clear English.
- Ability to create new program ideas.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks/programs.
- Ability to supervise, lead, and motivate program staff.
- Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education and Experience
- A combination of experience education will be considered including a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Sport Management, or related field with one to two (1-2) years of related experience, an associate’s degree in Parks and Recreation Sports Management, or related field with three to five (3-5) years of related experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience as a swim lesson instructor with aquatics programs through a Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA, or other community-based agency is required.
- Possess swim instructor certification through a recognized organization American Red Cross (WSI) preferred. along with other aquatic professional certifications AEA preferred.
- Possess a lifeguard management and lifeguard instructor certifications through the American Red Cross or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Possess and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid Certification.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) a plus.
- Aquatic Facility Operators (AFO) certificate or Certified Pool Operators (CPO) certificate or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Secure FBI Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, and Criminal Clearance upon hire.
