What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Inspector position at Township of Raritan?
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Engineering, performs field and office work involved in the general engineering and inspection of construction projects, facilities or other Township functions as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Inspection of private, commercial, residential subdivision improvements and Township construction projects under the jurisdiction of the Engineering Department.
Determines if the quality and workmanship conform to the plans and specifications.
Checks invoices, bills, payrolls and other construction records for completeness and accuracy as necessary.
Prepares correspondence and reports on the progress and completion of projects.
Punctual and regular attendance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of office procedures relating to engineering activities.
Knowledge of municipal regulations, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of and familiarity with the requirements of construction projects.
Knowledge of the proper placement of materials and equipment used in the construction of roadways and drainage projects.
Ability to organize assigned work, analyze problems and develop appropriate work methods.
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
Ability to address concerns/complaints of the general public, municipal officials, and other employees in a pleasant, courteous and efficient manner and to maintain effective working relationships.
Good communication and writing skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
High School graduate or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience in construction and/or inspection of considerable size projects such as major housing and commercial developments, roadway and drainage construction and similar heavy construction projects.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Drone experience/license a plus
The ability to read, write, speak or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Communication may include such forms of American Sign Language and Braille.
