What are the responsibilities and job description for the Skilled Worker position at Township of East Brunswick?
The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for the regular full-time position of Skilled Worker, with our Department of Public Works. The successful candidate will perform a variety of skilled trade related masonry, carpentry, and electrical tasks in the construction, maintenance and repairs of Township buildings, roads, equipment and other public facilities. Typical duties include but are not limited to operating light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks equipped with manual, automatic or dual range transmissions; operating snowplows and sanders; and using a variety of power equipment and hand tools, operating loaders and backhoes.
Must be willing and able to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours and may work in adverse weather conditions.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in performing general maintenance and repair work; including but not limited to proper trench shoring and barricading methods.
- Ability to identify, use, and operate common hand and power tools and equipment; including but is not limited to saws, drills, sprayers, grinders, and cement mixers.
- Ability to operate vehicles equipped with snowplows and spreaders.
- Ability to identify, use and operate the equipment, materials, and methods used in storm sewer pipe installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions.
Experience: Requires at least 2 years related experience.
Education: High school diploma and/or equivalent required.
Licensing & Certification: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey and (CDL) Class ‘B’ commercial driver’s license with proper endorsements.
